Lady Who Swept Orofino Bridge Notes Birthday

Orofino- Mrs. Melinda Carr of Orofino celebrated her 74th birthday on Saturday. She was presented with a cake by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pippinger.

Mrs. Carr still active, walks to town three or four times a day.

She was born at Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Burr. In 1916 she married Homer Carr at Orofino. They farmed for years on Upper Fords Creek before moving to Orofino. Mr. Carr was employed by the Camas Prairie Railroad as a setion hand. He died in March 1959.

Upon the completion of the Forest Street Bridge crossing Orofino Creek, Mrs. Carr took her broom and swept the bridge, to become the first and probably only lady ever to sweep the bridges at Orofino.
